In 1995 Lotus engineers decided to test the special Elise MMC brakes as harsh as possible. The Stelvio Pass was picked by them to test them in a do or die manner. No run off areas; if these newly designed brakes would fail, the test driver would probably end up somewhere deep down the valley.

For sure the film Lotus Elise – The Inside Story must be familiar with Elise owners. From 1:18:00 onwards the brake testing is a go.

This – thank god succesfull – testing lead to a cheerful memorial; since 1999 every second friday in September has been Lotus Elise Day on Stelvio. Yes people, this year it has been 20 years. Time to party!
