POST STELVIO 20 YEARS REVIVAL PORSCHE MUSEUM VISIT
On Sunday 15th September the Bends and Curves convoy heads back North after Stelvio 20 Years Revival and a bonus driving day on Saturday 14th September from Livigno to Strengen (AT). Since we’re passing Stuttgart more or less why not have a lunch stop and museum visit at the Porsche Museum? No arguments there, so we will lighten up the Porsche Parking a bit with our colourful convoy.
Coincidentally, 15th September is also the last day of the special Porsche 917 exhibition: “50 Years of the Porsche 917 – Colours of Speed”. The 917 is one of the most famous racing cars of all time. It made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show on 12 March 1969, and the Porsche Museum is celebrating the landmark birthday with plans to restore the first 917 ever (chassis 917-001) made to its original condition, as it was when first unveiled 50 years ago.
The Group 4 sports car was developed to secure an overall win in the Le Mans 24-hour race and so it did in 1970 and 1971. It was manufactured in 1969 as the first of a total of 25 vehicles required for type approval by the CSI (the competition department of the FIA). The #001 marks the start of the unprecedented success story of the 917 racing car, and is therefore the highlight of the special exhibition.
